Children/Young Adults

Is your child finding it hard to engage with traditional therapy?

Are they busy bees who just can’t sit still?

Is your child quiet and withdrawn even though you try so hard to connect?

Do they engage with animals more than with most people?

Do they just need someone outside of the family to talk to, to listen to their struggles and worries without any fear of rejection or judgement?

Do they need support with emotional regulation or social skills?

Does the constant access and influence of social media and the internet worry you?

Welcome to Off the Couch Therapy!

A place where children and young adults can be heard, encouraged, laugh, grow, play and express their concerns and challenges, while held in a safe and nurturing therapeutic space.

I am a very easy going and understanding children’s counsellor. A good rapport with gentle empathy is my number one priority. During a therapy session I use a variety of resources such as

  • games
  • stories
  • art/craft
  • Lego (LEGO®️ based therapy facilitator)
  • role play/social stories
  • photography
  • experiencing nature through the senses
  • ball games
  • and of course Hiro and Derry my gentle emotional support dogs

Being outdoors in nature can be very beneficial for children who like to move to self soothe and find sitting still in an office difficult. In case of inclement weather conditions an alternate locations such as a quiet local library may be utilised, but often a large umbrella and warm clothes can be all that’s needed to continue with outdoor sessions and to experience and observe nature in a different way.

NDIS clients who are self or plan managed can use their funding to access counselling through me. Parent sessions are also available, we all need someone to hear us in our frustrations and cheer us in our successes.
